The Warwickshire
South and East RSPCA
Our RSPCA branch has been quietly working away in this area for around 40 years and
in 1971 we opened our first charity shop (now a wool shop) in Regent Grove. Following
a legacy, we moved to our present shop in Regent Street. We now also have shops in
Southam and Kenilworth. Sadly, because we don't have an animal home, not many people
realise that we are very much more than just our three charity shops and that we
actually have animals in our care looking for homes.
Although we are part of the
national RSPCA umbrella, we are an independent RSPCA branch and are separate from
the RSPCA headquarters who are based in Horsham, West Sussex. We are run by a committee
of Trustees who are all volunteers, we raise all our own money and we are able to
spend that money where we think that it is most needed in our branch area. We don't
receive any funding from RSPCA headquarters or from The Government.
Our RSPCA branch
covers a large area stretching from Leamington Spa to the borders with Banbury, Coventry,
Gloucestershire and Northamptonshire. This puts a huge strain on the Inspector and
ACO (Animal Collection Officer) on duty as they can receive a call about a badly
injured animal in Stratford upon Avon whilst they are on the borders of Gloucestershire
collecting an apparently injured pigeon which flies off the minute they arrive at
the address!
